I Woke Up Like This Wednesday #1

The first post of this mini-series will be teaching you (if you don't already know) how to rag curl! Rag curling is using cut up materials such as jeans, shirts or even flannels to create tight curls. This looks gorgeous on people with long hair but suits almost anybody in all honesty. The above pictures show how it looked on my little sister when I did her hair for her primary school leaver's party. It's obvious how beautiful this looks and the fact that it requires 10 minutes of fiddling along with a good nights sleep is a plus. So, let's get cracking with the tutorial!
These are the products you will need:

  • 16 Rags
  • Frizz Serum
  • Water Spray
  • Hairbrush
STEP 1
Brush your hair. This seems obvious but it makes the whole process a lot easier when it comes to both putting the rags in and taking them out.

STEP 2
Split your hair in half, then split your hair from behind one ear upwards to your parting. You then want to half that section and spray it with water (be careful not to soak your hair or else the hair will not dry overnight).

STEP 3
Place a rag above the ends of your section of hair.

STEP 4
Wrap your ends around the rag, begin to roll the rag up to the top of the head and then tie it. Once should be enough, but if you want to tie the rag twice to ensure it stays in overnight then by all means do so. If you have layers like me then step 4 can be a little difficult, but it's nowhere near impossible so don't worry :)

STEP 5
Repeat this with the section above.

STEP 6
Split the remaining hair on the same side in half, then third each half. This may sound complicated but you'll get used to it hopefully. Just remember, each side of your head should have eight rags. Two above each ear, then six others on each side. You can split them horizontally and then vertically, or vice versa. It really makes no difference.

STEP 7
Dampen your chosen section of the six and rag curl it.

STEP 8
Rag curl the rest of your head and then sleep!
It should look something like this:

STEP 9
Wake up (the hardest part of this tutorial) and begin to untie the rags. It's exactly the same as how you put them in, but in reverse. Genius.

STEP 10
This step is optional - run your fingers through the curls so that they separate and your hair appears more voluminous. Serum will be needed to calm the frizz though. A lot of it. Take your pick as to what look you prefer and if you don't have time to experiment then you can look at the picture below which shows the difference.

And there you have it! Phew, didn't think I'd get this post up in time in all honesty. I'm sorry if any images are unclear or my instructions don't make too much sense - I hope you can understand the basics of what I'm trying to say. By all means, try this out for yourself and see what you think. If you made it this far down in the post then thanks for reading (you madame or sir are an awesome human being) and I hope you look forward to the next post in this series. Also, if you want me to make a 'How To Make Rags' post then I will do just that. Let me know in the comments or drop me an email!
