I Woke Up Like This Wednesday #6

Hey guys! Sadly, this post will be the last of this little blogging series - it's been fun though. For the final post, it'll be a tutorial on sock curling. Now, for this particular tutorial I used very thick socks because I wanted to demonstrate how you can vary the types of curls you get if you were to use thick socks over small ones (which would give the same sort of curl as using rags). If you use thicker socks, you'll end up with a loose curl/wave in your hair that's really quite flattering. I'd suggest using slightly thinner socks if you have short hair to make sure your hair has actual curls or waves in it by the end of it. Here's what you'll need:

  • Frizz Serum
  • A hairbrush
  • A water spray
  • +3 pairs of socks
STEP 1
You know the drill by now, brush and part your hair as you wish.

STEP 2
Apply a tiny dot of serum to your ends to prevent frizzing (though this doesn't tend to happen too much with sock curling).

STEP 3
Dampen (not soak) your hair with the water bottle and split your hair down the back so you have a section of hair on each side.
STEP 4
This next part all depends on your desired look. For loose curls, you're going to want to part your hair in larger sections. For this tutorial, I ended up using three pairs of socks (that's six individual socks if you want to get all mathematical). There's four pairs in the picture because I'm slightly ditsy and didn't realise I needed three, but you get the idea. So decide on how many socks you need - that's what I've been trying to say this whole time -.-

STEP 5
From here on out, this will be specifically for three pairs of socks. Part your hair from just past behind your ear upwards. That front section will be your first curl/wave.

STEP 6
As you would with rag curling, wrap the ends around the sock and roll it upwards.
STEP 7
Again, as you would with rag curling, tie the ends together so that it remains securely in place. Side note: socks like coming undone in the night, especially if you...
A) Fidget (like me)

B) Don't tie the socks twicce
C) Have quite soft hair
I've experienced this many times and have had beautifully curled hair besides one pesky, perfectly straight chunk of hair. So, don't forget to tie the socks twice each. The other two shouldn't be an issue if you do this!
PS: I don't have sideburns in case you got scared there. I just have a serious case of short hair there on just that one side. I don't know how it came to be xD

STEP 8
Take the remaining hair from the side you're working on and split it horizontally and evenly in two.

STEP 9
Roll, tie, tie again.

STEP 10
Now do all of this for the other side of your head. Of course, if you have a fringe or anything that you don't want in then you can leave it out.
STEP 11
Get some Zs!

STEP 12
Wake up and untie the socks. You should be left with something like this...
That's it. Well, I hope you enjoyed these posts whilst they lasted - I won't miss bending over backwards trying to get pictures of my hair xD Did you see the headband curling tutorial? In the end I made a tripod out of the majority of my books (which made a very large clutter in my bedroom, Mother wasn't too happy let me tell you!). Maybe sometime in the future I'll do another sort of mini-series, but for now this is all. I'll be posting every Wednesday and hopefully at some point in the weekend.I'll always tweet letting you know if I'm going to be late on a post or if something's come up so go follow me over on twitter @BeautyByBarlow
Did you enjoy this series? Which was your favourite tutorial?
