I split my findings into three catagories, the face, the mind and the body. Enjoy!
Face
- Radiance. When we drink water, our cells become hydrated and healthy. This gives, in turn, a healthy glow to the skin.
- Acne. We know water flushes the body out, right? So, when you drink water, you're getting rid of impurities and toxins in the body that are bad for you - ones that cause those pesky spots.
- Dark circles. Let's face it - in this day and age, an early night is unheard of. There are so many distractions like the internet around, it's a wonder we get any sleep at all! So, tired looking eyes are something we're gonna have to put up with... Unless you drink water. Dark circles are sooo much more prominent when the skin cells are dehydrated.
- Fine lines. Now, I myself don't have any fine lines - I'm 15 for heavens sake. However, in theory it makes sense that water would reduce fine lines. Again, the skin gets hydrated and the look is minimised. Also, if your skin is hydrated, your skin remains firm and healthy, leading to prevention of fine lines too.
- Cellulite. Wanna guess how? HYDRATION! Who would've guessed? Cellulite is more visible when the skin is dying of thirst. Don't let your skin become a desert, ladies and gents. Don't do it.
Mind
- Improves your mood. This is a given. If you feel groggy and dehydrated, you're bound to be more irritable. I know this is true of me.
- Aids sleep. If you're someone with quite the restless or anxious mind, both drinking and bathing in warm water can really help.
- Endurance. If youre hydrated, not only do your muscles endure working out for longer, your mind does too. If you're feeling icky, you're not going to be able to tell yourself "You can do it! You're strong!". You're more likely to think "I'm never going to be able to do this, I'm so unhealthy". Dehydration is the devil!
- Helps you think more clearly. Again, guys. Mood, water, health - you get it.
Body
- Boosts metabolism. I'm sure you know what your metabolism is, but just for my peace of mind, it's basically what burns off your fat. Metabolism slows with age, inactiveness, weight aaaand what else? Oh yeah, dehydration. Drink the water, lose the weight. Obviously you should work out also if this is your goal, but water is a pretty big factor in this.
- Prevents tummy bloating. Did you know that your body is about 60% water? When you work out, you're losing water via sweat. If youre dehydrated (oop, there's that word again) then your body will retain water. This means it'll store all of the water in one area to try and hang on to what's left. If you don't replace your lost water, you'll have a bloated tummy.
- Prevents constipation. Water flushes you out, so keep drinking it.
- Helps cure hangovers. Drinking alcohol basically dehydrates you to the max. Replacing this water lessens the affects of alcohol. I don't drink, so I can't describe how much it helps, but my friends that do drink say it helps a ton.
- Protects joints and cartilage. Cartilage is the thick, rubbery stuff between your joints. It's also 85% water. You see the link here? Drink drink drink!
Surely you get the point by now. Take water with you wherever you go! When I'm at school or doing revision, I always keep a bottle by me. Why? You don't realise that you're thirsty until the water is right beside you.
